Freezin’ Fashion

Gloves? Check. Beanie? Got it. Jacket? Ready. Outfit? Umm, not sure yet.

Acquiring all the necessary items for winter might be an easy task, but forming a cohesive yet fashionable winter wardrobe is a bit more tricky. From its weather to its length it may feel as if the only thing left to wear is a sweater and jeans to endure this unforgiving season.

Christmas might be over, but the season of giving is not over yet. This winter I give you the gift of being on-trend for ninety days of winter (fingers crossed it will be less)!

After reading this article, you’ll be grabbing all your Christmas money and will be ready to go to the mall with your checklist in hand. With these winter trends the rain will definitely not stop your parade.

Winter is one of those seasons that does not make for a great start for a new year. It may be gloomy and make you tired, but this trend will transport you to the past and wake you right up.

Buckle your seatbelts as you travel back in time to the world of neon colors and shoulder pads: the 80s! Don't start sifting through your parents’ closets just yet though! There's a new and fresh way to take on the 80s and soon enough your parents will be wishing they were as stylish as you in their glory days.

To reference one of the greatest duos of the 80s none other than Salt-n-Pepa, let’s talk about shoes, baby. If you want to emulate the 80s grunge look, Doc Martens are the way to go. Try a floral print, metallic, or neon boot to go beyond the typical black boot.

You know what would look great with your new boots? A mini skirt. In the 80s, miniskirts were all the rage and now they are making a comeback, so don’t be afraid to swap out your blah jeans for a skirt that will accentuate. It doesn’t have to be a go bold or go home skirt, the hemline is bold enough, go simple or bright.

I know you’re thinking that it is too cold to wear a skirt, but with a great pair of tights you’ll be good to go. Please don’t buy tights seen in those bad 80s workout videos though, those might be a bit too farfetched.

In the present day there are a lot of new tight options to try other than the ones worn in dance classes like tights with sparkles, lace, polka-dots, prints, and even with tuxedo stripes down the side.

The options are endless, so don’t feel like you have to resort to plain black tights. As people might exercise from bottom to top, now that you’ve worked what you’ll wear on the bottom, let’s work on the top.

Are sweaters making you too hot? Then try a one-shouldered top. It’s simple, it’s chic, and they go great with everything.

You can wear one of these 80s-inspired shirts with or without shoulder pads. The one-shouldered top won’t give you the cold shoulder if you find one in a knit or layer it with a t-shirt, button-up, or turtleneck underneath.

Do you want to add even more cut-out tops to your wardrobe? Then the deconstructed top is for you. With this trend there are so many ways to go.

You can have something with an asymmetrical hem, a tie-front, ruffles, cut-out shoulders, slit sleeves, and so much more. This top is very unique, so you can't really go wrong with it. It can even be DIY-ed if you trust yourself with scissors.

These tops are not exactly made for warmth, so don't forget a coat or down-jacket. Coats can't really get that complicated, but you can try a coat with a print, bright color, or big pockets.

It's the small things that make a coat special. To top it all off add a scarf. Try a faux fur stole or blanket scarf to be extra covered up this winter.

There you go. Your outfit is complete.

Now go and share these winter trends with the rest of the world , but don't forget to always dress for yourself and no one else. Have fun and take risks with fashion with your own style.

Take these 80s trends lightly; the world doesn't need another Madonna. Try one-shouldered and deconstructed tops, but please don't freeze.

Winter may be a sad season, but your style doesn't have to be with these new trends.
