Boba, boba, boba. Everyone is craving boba! People go crazy for it, but where is the best boba sold?
Boba is an Asian tea based drink shaken or mixed with fruit or milk with tapioca pearls at the bottom. The secret to having the best boba drink is getting the tapioca pearls perfectly chewy and just sweet enough.
I found that the top boba locations are usually in San Francisco, San Jose, and Foster City; pretty far out there. The closer boba locations are in Berkeley, Concord, and Albany.
The best boba in the Bay Area with four locations, including San Francisco, Foster City, Burlingame, and Cupertino, is Tpumps. At Tpumps, they serve you large portions for a good price. You can mix up to three flavors and choose to have it with or without milk. The mango, peach, passion without milk is a perfect combination and you can really taste all the different flavors in that one drink. Their honey boba is unique and super tasty and meets the requirement of being nice and chewy.
Plentea is a cute little boba place located in San Francisco Chinatown. Their glass milk jars will pique your interest. You can keep your jar and if you bring it back to the place on your next visit, you receive 10% off on your drink. The drink tastes great and the boba is softer and chewier than other places, but not as great a Tpumps.
Plentea is inimitable with their glass jars, but because of that, they are served in smaller portions. And also because they are served in glass they charge more for it.
In Concord, there is Quickly, a popular chain and has various locations. There’s nothing really spectacular about it. Their boba is mediocre and the quality of their drink depends on who is making it. You don’t want to order the slush drinks because a majority of the time they don’t blend it all the way and leave ice chunks in it.
Purple Kow has three locations, San Francisco, San Jose, and Berkeley. It’s closest to us, but really it’s all hype. Yeah, I guess their specialty drinks are pretty good, but the boba isn’t the best. You think you can savor your drink by keeping it cold in the refrigerator, you thought wrong. Leaving your Purple Kow in the fridge for just 30 minutes will ruin your boba, turning it hard and slimy instead of the sweet chewiness it should have.
Tpumps, Quickly, Plentea, Purple Kow, anywhere you go really, they all have something different to give you. Some have good drinks but bad boba, and others will be the opposite. The overall with the best drink and best boba is Tpumps. If you haven’t been, there you have to try it!
