In the twilight of the 1st Academic Quarter, Hercules High underwent its much anticipated Homecoming week, filled with theme days, a parade, a rally, the big game, and, of course, the dance.
Hercules began the Homecoming festivities on Monday, October 19th with its theme days, which encouraged students to dress based on a certain theme. The days were "Workout Monday," "Breast Cancer Tuesday," "Coachella Wednesday," "90s Thursday," and "Class Colors Friday." Every student that wore attire specific to a day earned "Spirit Points" for his/her class. Suprisingly, the junior class tallied the most points and won the first annual Spirit Trophy.
Each class also constructed their own floats based off of old television shows or movies. The freshman class was Bedrock, the sophomore class Jurassic World, the junior class The Wizard of Oz, the the senior class Bikini Bottom. The sophomre class was awarded the best float by a comittee of teachers.
The Parade
Kicking off the eventful day before Homecoming was the parade.
The Leadership crew arrived during first period to set up the cones and tables for the parade. Participants arrived at the community center around nine and prepared for the parade with sports attire, posters, candy and floats to represent their organization during the march.
Refugio Valley Road was blocked off for the event.
About three-hundred Titans filed into their spots and shared one last cheer with their group before marching down Refugio. Eager middle school students cheered at the sight of the blaring red fire truck emerging from the corner. Behind them, the marching band, drumline and cheerleaders set the energy for the groups to come.
Water polo, golf, tennis, cross country, volleyball, JV football and Varsity football were represented at the parade. In addition to the sports, clubs were represented in the parade for the first time. The Media production, Latinas Unidas, African African American Association, and Japanese pop culture club marched proudly with signs and club attire.
The classes also had a chance to show off their floats and were the star of the parade.
Each group marched down from the community center to Hercules’s senior lot. Following the parade, 4th period lunch began.
The Rally

On Friday, October 23rd, Hercules held its annual Homecoming Rally to pump up the football team for their game against the Saint-Patrick Saint-Vincent Bruins. Each class created dances based on their theme and competed in competition such as musical chairs and relay races. The most important competition was the "Spirit Competition." Students yelled out their class-specific chant to see which class had the most spirit and collaboration.
The rally took place during 7B and lasted approximately an hour.
The Game

All the buildup led up to Hercules's match-up against SPSV.
Under tremendous pressure, the Titans were able to blow out the Bruins in a commanding 42-20 victory.
The Titans had everything going for them on both sides of the ball.
On offense, Hercules stuck to the script of attacking with the ground game. Add in a pass every once in a while for the element of suprise and the perfect recipe for 42 points came to fruition.
On defense, the Titans rarely allowed anything in the air, forcing the Bruins to switch to the run game. Hercules locked them up and were able to coast to an easy win.
The Dance
Following the craziness that was Friday, the festivities ended with the annual Homecoming dance.
The dance took place in the cafeteria, as always, beginning at 7 PM and running until 10 PM.
The guest performers for the night were Jay Ant and P-Lo from the popular Bay Area group HBK (The Heartbreak Gang).
To much of the student's suprise, there was no Royalty dance and the number of slow songs played was very minimal.
Regardless, student feedback was very positive and the night was one all who attended will remember.
