Among many efforts to address the constant bullying concerns at Hercules High, the administration adopted a campaign named "No Place for Hate." On September 11 and 12, Hercules High administrators and Health Center staff gave a presentation to students regarding the school's new efforts to prevent bullying. During this presentation, students were asked questions about why they think bullying occurs and the effects of bullying. To inspire students, the presenters quoted Malcolm X: “If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.” Additionally, the presenters showed a social activist video (below) explaining how bullying is something worth standing against.
This campaign is an attempt to maintain a safe school environment so that students can focus on their education rather than worrying about their safety. Hercules High assistant principal Dingane Newson claims, "For a student to reach their maximum academic potential, they must first feel safe in their surroundings." To encourage student participation in this process, school staff passed out

stickers and pins labelled "No Place for Hate" and asked all students to sign a pledge. When asked about bullying, AP Government and Economics teacher John Franz said, “It’s important to address it because the data indicates that it has been something of a problem.”
Hercules hopes to eliminate the root of this bullying issue through a new approach. Administrators want to ensure the safety and security of every student and the "No Place for Hate" campaign is definitely no different. Franz adds, “I think the school is heading in the right direction to approve.”
